Immigration, Migration and Refugee Resources

In the Roman Catholic Church, the World Day of Migrants and Refugees has been celebrated in September since being instituted in 1914 by Pope Pius. In the United States, the month of June is Immigrant Heritage Month in recognition of the country's heritage as an immigrant nation and the important contributions of immigrants from around the world to the economy, culture and common identity. World Refugee Day has been honored on June 20 since 2000 by a special United Nations General Assembly Resolution to direct attention to the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution.
